YASIRUNA
Kangyue Zhang
photography  director & visual artist

Rooted in the fluidity of identity and the tension of belonging, my work explores the delicate interplay between self and space. Born in Tokyo, raised in China, and now based in London, I navigate multiple cultural narratives—each shaping my vision, each leaving traces of both presence and absence.

Influenced by the Japanese aesthetics of mono no aware and wabi-sabi, my photography embraces impermanence, subtle beauty, and the poetry of light and shadow. I am fascinated by how photography carves time—how it distills fleeting moments into something tangible, yet ephemeral.

Within fashion photography, I seek to move beyond surface aesthetics, weaving narratives that extend beyond the garments themselves. Each project is a dialogue between texture, form, and emotion—a story waiting to be unveiled. Clothing is more than fabric; it carries memory, identity, and the passage of time.

My lens seeks to capture the quiet in-between spaces, the tension between intimacy and detachment, the echoes of what once was and what remains. Through my work, I invite the viewer into a world both personal and universal, where the beauty of imperfection and the weight of nostalgia linger in every frame.

With this vision, I founded YASIRUNA—a creative studio dedicated to providing brands and individuals with the finest visual design services. More than just photography, YASIRUNA is a space where storytelling, aesthetics, and meaning converge to create imagery that resonates deeply.
